Happy New Year - What are your resolutions?

The start of a new year is traditionally a time for New Year Resolutions, where we make a list of things that we will not do, will do more of, or a list of things that we want to try in the next 12 months.

Some of us will have broken some of our resolutions already and we are only in the first week of the new year. But don't worry, we won't tell anyone and you can re-start them again now.

Home HIV testing kits have been illegal in the UK since 1992

Warning over HIV home test kits

Illegal home testing kits for HIV are giving people incorrect results, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has warned.

It said there were issues with other tests for sexually transmitted diseases which were legal but might also be inaccurate.

The MHRA is investigating a UK website which is selling the tests.

Civil Partnership Law changed to allow religious ceremonies

The Marriages and Civil Partnerships (Approved Premises) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 come into force 5th December, and lifted the ban on places of religious worship holding civil partnership ceremonies. 

This seems to be a hot potato right now with the Secretary General of the General Synod releasing a statement, and Peter Tatchell doing the same.

World Aids Day is observed on 1st December every year throughout the world. In every country there are people living with HIV.

HIV stands for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It is a virus which attacks the body's immune system — the body's defence against diseases.

Diary Dates

New Forest Coffee Posse, now 11am

Healthy Gay Hampshire are proud to support this **NEW** LGBT Social Event in West Hampshire.

This coffee posse is aimed at people living in rural Hampshire, but not exclusive. A chance to meet other like-minded local people from the LGBT community in a comfortable environment.

What to expect..

It's going to be great. There will be lots of new people to chat to, gossip with old friends, arrange New Forest Walks etc etc

  • Read the Gay Press
  • Find out about other local gay groups and organisations (including LAGLO, Gay Men's Health etc)
  • Chill out in a comfortable environment
  • or just sit back and let it all happen around you Low Key, No Pressure, (it's been used before, but it's a good one) 'the shallow end' of the scene.

Meeting place

The Happy Cheese have a great place to gather. The Green Room is EXCLUSIVELY ours for this event. They have open fires in the winter, a great outside space to use in the summer. On mainline trains, bus routes and there is ample free parking if you are bringing the car. See The Happy Cheese website for more details.

The Edge, Drop-in Community room

Healthy Gay Hampshire is proud to announce that members of staff will be at the Drop-in Community room at The Edge in Southampton on Saturday night.

Drop-in (as the name suggests) to have a chat about anything, sexual health advice, free condoms and lube, as well as any other goodies that we may be giving away.

All conversations are confidential and a quiet space is available if you want to have a private conversation with a member of the team.
